Mastering is one of the most meticulous parts of song production. Not only does it rely on every previous step (mixing and sound design) being performed correctly, but there is a lot to consider when trying to get your tracks polished to a level suitable for release.

This is key because nowadays, record labels desire the finished product. Mastering is of course expensive if done professionally, and while nothing will beat the ear of a trained mastering engineer in a perfectly treated room, there are some things you can do yourself to cut costs down until you get to that stage.
