Exclusive Interview: Julian Wassermann

We speak to the man who made our summer with his stellar track “Jupiter”; Julian Wassermann about his upcoming music, how he got into music production and where he sees his music going next.

Firstly we just want to say thank you for ‘Jupiter’! It was the soundtrack to our summer and is still continuously heard in the studio – we cannot get enough of it!

Oh! Thank you guys!

What were your early influences in music?

It all started with Sébastien Léger and Pryda. They always inspired me!

What made you want to be a DJ/Producer?

When I discovered the House scene, I totally fell in love. I began to collect some music and tried to learn myself Djing. Then I wanted to produce my own stuff. First experience was with the DAW Reason, but the first track was produced with Logic Pro. It was really hard to learn myself producing and it took a lot of time.

Whose music are you enjoying currently?

Denis Horvat – He’s doing a really great job!

Which other artists would you say have influenced you musically?

It’s hard to pick someone. In the past years there were many influences, of course. I’m a big fan of deep basslines with catchy melodic parts. For me it’s very important to have my own style of music.

You have some great releases on Stil vor Talent. How did your first release on the label come about?

With my friend Henning aka H.B.C. we produced the two tracks „1000 Times“ & „ Nord“. We decided to send the demo to the A&R of Stil vor Talent. We never thought that we would get any feedback. But they even wanted to sign both tracks for two compilation releases. We were really happy about that.

Where’s your favourite place to play in the world?

There are so many spots in the world. One of my goals is to play a North & South America tour soon.

Could you tell us about the studio setup you have?

Sure! 2x PSI 21M monitors, Scarlett Focusrite 18i20, Akai MPK49 Midi Keyboard, Moog Sub37 and Clavia Nord Lead 4. Using Ableton Live 9 Suite as DAW.

Have you seen your sound change since you began producing?

Yes, for sure – My sound is a mixture between House & Techno, changed over the years from progressive-, to tech- and deep house. Now it’s more melodic techno, I would say. What can we expect from you in 2018?

My first release this year is „Human & Polydo“, will be out on Parquet Recordings, 5th of March. This is the first year in my new studio, so i wanna be much more productive than in 2017.

If you could go back to the start of your career and tell yourself one thing – what would it be?

Find your own style and don’t adapt to much!
